Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

This log does not reflect an actual coaching session and should not count as one. Sara did not attend the meeting, but because we need to set a goal as soon as possible, we corresponded by email to ensure her completion of this course requirements.  This log serves to document her intended next steps and helps us prepare for the next coaching session.

Sara shared key vocabulary that is essential for content mastery and she shared the baseline data for her class as follows:

Weather Vocabulary: meteorology, weather, climate, drought, barometer, anemometer, thermometer, cumulonimbus, low pressure, high pressure, cirrus

Pre-test data: Average score was 6.37/11

She will work on the following goal: The student average for the class on the Weather vocabulary will increase from 6/11 words to 9/11 words after the unit.

Methods will include:

Explicit instruction over the etymology/morphology of the words, specifically those with Greek, Latin, or other roots.

Creating visual aids using pictures of the weather vocabulary words (students use etymology to help, review before gluing)

Using the visual aids to match words with definitions (independent practice)

Review in game form from definitions to word (small groups)

Word wall with images

Grade level readings over weather and climate

Technology over topic

Application to real world experiences and need
