Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

During a personal check-in, Kim shared about how difficult things have been at school.  They have an interim principal who is making a lot of demands (even though she will not be their principal next year), they are preparing to absorb Westview, their preschool pilot program is in chaos, and new students they have just recently admitted to the program are “on fire!”  It has been difficult to find time to pull her group because it has been “all hands on deck” to manage behaviors of new students.  When asked about Easter, she said it was “lovely.”

She has started the coursework for the second part of the class.

I stated that we had two purposes:  to talk about her work toward her goal and to explore possibilities for a teacher goal utilizing content from the second course.

She reported that 9/12 of the students could pass syllable blending.  I asked if the goal, as originally set, was actually attainable and we decided it was not.  We had said that students would pass Syllable Deletion by May.  Here is a quote from the PAST test itself:  Basic Syllable Levels (D, E2 – preschool to mid kindergarten; E3 – mid to late kindergarten) LEVEL D Say bookcase. Now say bookcase but don’t say book. FEEDBACK: “If you say bookcase without saying book, you get case.”  We changed the goal to be mastery of Syllable Segmentation instead of Syllable Deletion, because mastery of Syllable Deletion is not “expected” until as late as mid-K.  She will continue her work on Syllable Segmentation.

She believes that a teacher goal in the area of comprehension will serve her well with her PreK students.  As of now, she is planning to identify Tier 2 words in their upcoming unit, and then use pictures and/or realia to teach those words.  We will also talk about how she plans to use POSSUM with her first graders next year.

We will meet again on 4/22/26 at 10:00 because her regular day (Friday 4/24/26 is an inservice day).
