By May 2026, 4 out of 6 students in my fluency intervention group who are currently reading below the 5th-grade benchmark will increase their oral reading fluency to at least 150 words correct per minute during a warm read of a grade-level ReadWorks fluency passage, as measured by weekly progress-monitoring checks.
Notes
During a personal check-in, Amber shard that Easter was good but low-key. Isaiah decided not to do track, but is still training and doing choir and strings!
She is just getting started on the modules in Course II. She reported that she did share out in class last week during the vocabulary session. She said the new content so far has been very “relatable.”
I stated that we had two purposes today:Â to discuss her work toward her student goal (Fluency) and to explore possibilities for her teacher goal.
She had emailed me a new chart of data for wpm read by her students, and it showed that 4/6 of her students had reached or surpassed 137 wpm, which we had identified as the Midpoint. She has continued with choral reading, echo reading (both as a group and with their partners), vocabulary work, word parts, reading sentences focused on punctuation, and some work in comprehension – all parts of Expression/Volume, Phrasing, Smoothness, and Pace.
In considering an area for her teacher goal, she said she was torn between vocabulary and comprehension. She ended up selecting vocabulary and we discussed some instructional strategies/graphic organizers contained in the module that she might want to try incorporating into her practice. She will have those identified before our next call on 4/23/26 at 2:50 pm.
