Coachee Note 1:

Coaching Session #2 – Commit to Change

Coachee: Jessica Epperson

Date/Time: September 29, 2026, 2:50 p.m.

Next Coaching Date/Time: October 6, 2026, 2:50 p.m.

Video reflections: The classroom tour shows students’ seats arranged in a horseshoe shape allowing lots of space for students to move around the room. Jessica said she is able to have this arrangement this year because her students are well behaved and do not talk as much as the previous year’s students. Everything in the classroom is very visible and organized. At this time, the teaching video link does not work for me.

  1. Setting a DREAM Goal

Work together to draft a DREAM goal:

  • Data-responsive
  • Relevant
  • Environment or Context Specific
  • Attainable
  • Measurable

GOAL:  Three 2nd grade students will work on identified retelling skills to improve their comprehension skills, and expressive and receptive language. The PSI within the 95% curriculum and a comprehension scale will be used to track students’ progress toward their goals. The dates for achieving progress toward goal are as follows:

Students will be taught the elements of a successful retelling by October 6, 2026

By October 20, 2026, the students will be able to retell a story by scoring 3 out of 6 on the comprehension scale.

By November 3, 2026, the students will be able to retell a story by scoring 4 out of 6 on the comprehension scale.

By November 17, 2026, the students will be able to retell a story by scoring 5 out of 6 on the comprehension scale.

By December ___, 2026, the students will be able to retell a story by scoring 5 to 6 on the comprehension scale.

  1. Potential Strategic Questions for the DREAM Goal:

WHO: Who does this change/goal impact?  Jessica will be working with three students whose comprehension is compromised. The students have difficulty responding to questions. Their oral comprehension skills are low and this impacts their abilities to interact with others.

Identify any students who may need extra support for implementation of this change? Who can you turn to for support and help when need regarding this goal? Jessica can tap into the teacher next door and the resource room teacher for added support.

WHAT: What does attainment of goal regarding change look like and feel like for you and for your students? The students will improve their skills for oral retelling of a story.

WHEN: What is a reasonable amount of time to spend on this goal? The students will be working on the goal of improving retelling skills by mid-December.

WHERE: Besides this classroom, is there any other setting the students will be working on goal attainment? No.

WHY: Why are students impacted by this change? Why are you (the teacher) impacted by this change? The students are currently having difficulty with expressive and receptive language skills. The reading comprehension skills of these students are low.

HOW: How does this goal support your classroom aspirations? How can I support you in attaining this goal? The students will move into other skills level groups and Jessica will feel that their success has impacted her teaching.
