Coaching Session #2 – Commit to Change
Coachee: Suzie Jones
Date/Time: September 28, 2026, 4:15 p.m.
Next Coaching Date/Time: Possibly October 6, 4:15 p.m.
Video reflections: The video shows a very well-organized classroom with centers that are Kindergarten-friendly. There is great focus on learning even with how the students are seated at the group lessons’ table. The small group lesson demonstrated letter review with the students. There are actions associated with letter sounds. Suzie incorporated lots of positive reinforcement with tactile and visual cues.
- Setting a DREAM Goal
Work together to draft a DREAM goal:
- Data-responsive
- Relevant
- Environment or Context Specific
- Attainable
- Measurable
GOAL: Â Four Kindergarten students will use their knowledge of letter sounds to orally blend CVC words with 80% accuracy on the assessments from 95% curriculum. The students will use tactile and kinesthetic manipulatives to work toward the goal of mastering initial sounds within the CVC words. The dates for achieving progress toward goal are as follows:
5 sounds by October 9, 2026
10 sounds by October 23, 2026
15 sounds by November 6, 2026
20 sounds by November 20, 2026
Four students have been identified to work on the CVC skills and are currently performing the lowest of the students in the class. One student within the group has been placed on an IEP.
- Potential Strategic Questions for the DREAM Goal:
WHO: Who does this change/goal impact? Â The students and Suzie, herself, will be impacted if the students reach their goal.
Identify any students who may need extra support for implementation of this change? Who can you turn to for support and help when need regarding this goal? One of the students, N., is on an IEP and receives additional support. Suzie will rely on me for additional support, if needed.
WHAT: What does attainment of goal regarding change look like and feel like for you and for your students? Â The students will be ready for the next step and feel confident about their learning.
WHEN: What is a reasonable amount of time to spend on this goal? Â Students will be spending 5-10 minutes a day on the intervention for letter sounds.
WHERE: Besides this classroom, is there any other setting the students will be working on goal attainment? No.
WHY: Why are students impacted by this change? Why are you (the teacher) impacted by this change? The students will be ready for next level learning and be closer to working on grade level.
HOW: How does this goal support your classroom aspirations? How can I support you in attaining this goal? The intervention goal aligns with Suzie’s goals for learning. She wants her students to feel confidence and successful.
