Notes
Today Katie and I brainstormed her problem of practice. She explained that she is really struggling with word study and the new spelling expectations in her district. I asked her what were some of the concerns. She said it always feels like a hot mess and kids aren’t progressing. The district agreed to let them have more time for practice and repetition. She wants to use syllable spelling as her problem of practice.
We determined that we would do a syllable screener of 15 words that I created 4 times (baseline, 25%, 50% and end goal) to see if with good instruction, more practice and better strategies if students can have more success. She will give the baseline screener this week and analyze the score and the syllable scores and we will set a goal from there. I will send her ideas for strategies for her group. I also shared a good resource “The ABC’s and All Their Tricks” by Margaret M. Bishop to help with spelling conventions.
