Notes
We discussed and finalized her student goal as related to vocabulary development on her European studies unit as well as her methods and results of baseline data. We spoke about the importance of tier 3 terms in relation to sentence fluency and comprehension. We affirmed her approach in selecting key vocabulary; she will focus on Tier 3 words relevant to the unit of study and associated reading material.
We also discussed a variety approaches to address explicit vocabulary instruction and referenced materials from her current practices and from Foundations Module 7 – Tiers of Vocabulary,  Identifying Words to Explicitly Teach,  and Evidence Based Vocabulary Instruction. Sheryl is very interested in learning the Concept Mastery Routine to provide depth of instruction and understanding around critical and permeating content terms. We discussed that I would send her professional development routines and that we could set up a separate meeting for learning the routine.
Sheryl feels that she is behind in completing module assignments; she has been overwhelmed with various professional and personal commitments. She plans to finish Modules 1 and 2 in the next two weeks.
