Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

During a personal check-in, Ann said that the time “off” after parties and conferences was good, but she wasn’t very productive.  I sympathized and said that teachers aren’t very good at giving themselves permission to slow down!

She said that coursework is going well.  For the Application Task for Module 4 she developed, taught, and reflected upon a lesson.  As regards to the content, she said, “It’s super interesting!  It’s about work that I do on the daily!”  She is seeing affirmation for things she has already learned and done, but is also seeing new learning to apply to her worjk.

She had sent me a draft of her goal before our call, so we discussed it and added a bit of info to it.  We also developed the Goal Stages.  We worked on my shared screen in email, and then I sent it to her.

She had already given the pretest to the three students with whom she will be working for her goal.  Skylar got only 2/10 CVC words, Mason got 3/10, and Tripp got 4/10.  We analyzed the errors and found that Mason and Tripp passed the short o words, but every other vowel needs work!  She has decided to begin with short u, which no one got, so that they have the longest time to work on it and review.

She had already explored some resources in Module 5 (and from class) that had given her ideas for instructing this group.  We identified Gradual Release of Responsibility, orthographic mapping, El Konin boxes, magnets, Blending Lines , and Word Ladders.

We also explored resources on fcrr.org which will support science-based reading instruction.

We will meet again on March 11 at 1:50.  (We know that’s a class week, but it’s what works for our schedules.)
