As we began the session, the coachee wanted to jump right to discussing ideas for setting a measurable goal. She shared some of her ideas which pertained to comprehension. She also had the idea to use this standard – Knows and applies grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words [RF.5.3] . We discussed that this may a good idea since the phonics module would be coming up soon. She is hoping to work on whatever goal she sets with a small group during the time set aside for meeting with small groups. We discussed what data she could possibly use as a diagnostic to point to what to teach. We discussed looking at the ORF along with accuracy to see which students aren’t quite where they need to be. I encouraged her to find lessons in Benchmark Advance that address phonics/morphology.
We are going to attempt to write the goal through emails since we didn’t have enough time to nail it down during our session.
