Video reflections: Chelsea’s classroom shows great commitment to community and building a family of classroom learners. There are community snacks, a family board where students bring photos from home, and community supplies accessible to the students when they need them. There are many visual reminders throughout the classroom for students to refer to when they them.
- Setting a DREAM Goal
Work together to draft a DREAM goal:
- Data-responsive
- Relevant
- Environment or Context Specific
- Attainable
- Measurable
GOAL: One 2nd grade student will use tactile and kinesthetic manipulatives and writing activities to improve vowel sounds skills toward the goal of mastering sounds in Level 4 and moving to Level 5 words as long as progress is being made. Currently, the student has not progressed past Level 4 when other students are on Level 6. The PSI associated with the curriculum will be used to progress monitor the student’s skills every three weeks. The dates for achieving progress toward goal are as follows:
By October 6, 2026, the students’ skill set will be reviewed.
By October 20, 2026, the student will have progressed 50% of the way through Level 4 skills.
By November 3, 2026, the student will have progressed 75% of the way through Level 4 skills.
By November 17, 2026, the student will have progressed from Level 4 to Level 5.
- Potential Strategic Questions for the DREAM Goal:
WHO: Who does this change/goal impact? The goal will impact the student and possibly the student’s family. Chelsea is still getting to know the student’s family, and she will convey information about the intervention the family during conferences the week of October 12.
Who can you turn to for support and help when need regarding this goal? Chelsea will rely on the 2nd grade teacher next door to her if she needs any assistance. She can also tap into the knowledge of the PLC, the SIT Team, and the learning coach.
WHAT: What does attainment of goal regarding change look like and feel like for you and for your students? It is exciting for Chelsea to see progress, especially with a student who is struggling to “catch up” with peers. Chelsea noted that the student has good confidence now so working on these skills may not present an issue for the student.
WHEN: What is a reasonable amount of time to spend on this goal? We have identified a schedule that will help the student build skills throughout November and begin to work on the Level 6 skills by December.
WHERE: Besides this classroom, is there any other setting the students will be working on goal attainment? No, the student works in the classroom.
WHY: Why are students impacted by this change? Why are you (the teacher) impacted by this change? The student will be at the level she needs to be at in order to make progress with other literacy skills for the remainder of the school year.
HOW: How does this goal support your classroom aspirations? How can I support you in attaining this goal? Support will come from the bi-weekly coaching sessions and any concerns or questions will be addressed through email between Zoom meetings.
