Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

Danielle recieved the news that their kindergarten numbers have decreased so she will be moving to first grade. She is stressed and nervous about this change. We talked through some of it how to move from purposeful play into more structured literacy environment. She is worried about having high enough expectations and what the structure should even look like. We just discussed slowing down the thinking and remembering that these kids will be just like the students she has now in many ways… they will be needing some similar things like rehersal of expectations, review of letters and sounds, support with letter formation etc. but many things she will be able to incorporate into first grade very easily… like maybe starting with some play either a short period of time or a couple of stations then gradually working up to more structure. starting with songs and language development activities will be good to stableize both her and the students and help create community.

Next Steps

To Do: Next week we will talk more about her transition to first grade and how she can prepare for that.
