Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

Today, Danielle and I connected to review the progress of her draft practice mats for use during whole-group and small-group instruction. She has identified a version she’d like to use as a starting point for launching this routine. The design offers flexibility, allowing her to differentiate and adapt it as students grow.

Danielle is considering moving the writing component to a notebook rather than keeping it on the back of the mat. This shift would allow her to use the back for a different type of practice while also preserving student writing samples over time, rather than having them erased each day.

We also discussed her differentiation plan, including the strengths and potential challenges of the current version. During our conversation about multilingual learners, we emphasized the importance of explicit instruction for letters and sounds that may not easily transfer between languages. Since this concept was new to her, I will follow up by sharing a resource on transfer issues to support her planning.

Next Steps

To Do: Danielle is going to begin working on her curriculum specific words and sounds, I will send her a transfer chart as she prepares for multi-lingual learners as well
