Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

We missed a call on 4/7/26 and rescheduled to 4/14/26. In the interim, Courtney emailed me ALL THE THINGS that have been hard:  student involved in a domestic dispute, co-worker under concussion protocol (Courtney has been writing her plans for two weeks because she can’t be on screens), field trip where she was the only non-substitute on the trip and not all students made good choices, working from 5:30 am to 8:30/9:00 pm each day, and state testing, just to name a few!

During a personal check-in, she said that it had been “a lot!”  I provided as much sympathy as I could.  🙁

She is finished with Modules 7 and 8 for the course.

I shared that we had two purposes:  to talk about her progress toward her goal and to explore options for a teacher goal for Course II.

She said that the two girls working on heart words are making good progress, so I asked to what she attributed their successes.  She said that Brianna has been diagnosed with dyslexia and is finding the most success with repetition.  At the Annual IEP meeting, they were able to celebrate with Mom the fact that she has doubled her wpm and any mistakes that she makes in spelling “make sense” and are phonetically correct.  Alexa is an ELL, and Courtney has figured out that she benefits most from doing the same routines with a little variation for interest.  They have each learned eight new heart words and are at the 3/4 point for the goal.  She has had discussions with the girls about how lucky they are to have figured out how their brains learn.  She will be out for a family cruise, but isn’t worried for them because they know the routines and can take ownership and do activities independently.

As for a teacher goal, she has already printed out the POSSUM information to try (both this year and next!) and will work to identify Tier 2 words in their work.

We will meet again on 4/28/26 at 10:00 am since she will be on her cruise during our regularly-scheduled week.
