Christi talked about what she was learning in her classes and discussed the upper part of Scarborough’s rope. We discussed what literacy problems she has noticed in her class and what she might want to concentrate on for a goal during this course. She noted that her students are having a hard time understanding the question stems on tests and assignments and that results in poor answers to questions. She would like to concentrate on teaching her students how to understand the vocabulary of question stems and how to answer multiple part and multiple mark questions and then answer the questions accordingly. Some challenges she noted for a goal like this would be time, student attention and motivation to answer written questions well. She would like to work with small groups for a 10-15 minute period daily on this. She will finalize her ideas for a goal and how to measure the goal by the next coaching session and have some baseline data.
