By the end of April, a small group of "bubble" students will correctly decode 8/10 of VC/CVC nonsense words by blending individual phonemes as measured by the PSI.
Notes
During a personal check-in, Emily shared that it was a beautiful day and Spring Break is coming soon! Theo and Josie are well. Theo has a birthday over Spring Break and wants to go to McDonalds. 🙂 K is taking a field trip to Wonderscope on Friday.
I shared that our purposes today were to finalize the goal phases and talk about instruction thus far.
Emily shared that, on the PSI for VC and CVC words, Huxlee got 1/10 (short a), Kam got 1/10 (short 3), and Lila got 0/10. Using this current data, we set the goal phases at 2/10, 4/10, and 6/10 before reaching the goal of 8/10.
We reviewed the instructional strategies, resources, and routines she will be using: El Konin frames, books based around short vowels, and Letter-Cube Blending from fcrr.org. After using these for awhile, she may pull in other strategies from Module 4. We reviewed her plans for the gradual release of responsibility and talked about the role that multi-sensory instruction has in facilitating learning. She has a time for meeting with these three in a group during Small Group Reading Time.
We will meet again on 3/23 at 9:00 (it’s a PD Day).
