Notes
Beth Pope and I met on March 5 for her 4th coaching session. We are in the commit to change phase of the Vector Model.
Beth has a goal of increasing scores on the vocabulary in context prestest from near mastery to mastery. The original goal had allowed 3 weeks to be accomplished, but due to Spring Break, the timeline for the goal will be extended.
Prior to this coaching session, Beth made a video of her instruction during her targeted group instruction. Beth had identiied the book, “Rime Crime” for the students to read and had administered a pretest to determine how many of the vocabulary words found in the story could be defined by the students and centered her instruction around the words to improve scores on the post test. Throughout her instruction, Beth used evidence-based vocabulary strategies including providing examples using the words, having the students develop examples using the words and finally the Frayer model was assigned. Beth indicated that she felt the lesson went well and that students responded as she hoped they would. She would have liked to have more time for them to develop their own examples using the words.
We discussed how the strategies she is using will be applied to students being able to define words using context clues. We will search strategies that can be implemented for students to be able to define words through the use of context clues.
