Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

During a personal check-in, I asked if she and Evan were healthy now (there was illness at their house last time) and she said they were!  When I asked how things were going after conferences, long weekend, and back to school, she said they were “just clicking along.”

I shared that I had just spoken with her colleague, and I knew that they had done the Application Tasks for Modules 3 and 4 together.  She shared that she had gotten 100% on the pretest on Module 5 and she had already observed a kindergarten teacher teach phonics and just needed to write it up.  She said that she did watch some of the videos, and was gratified to see practices that are also part of her instruction.

I confirmed that I had the wording from last time for her goal right, and we identified the Goal Stages together.

She then shared some things that have been happening for Nathalie’s instruction.  She started one-on-one work with her in a “cycle” from 2/2 to 3/4.  She will give her the PSI on 3/4 and then start a new cycle with her.  She is utilizing UFLI lessons which are extremely targeted, explicit, and systematic.  She showed me the parts of the lesson and said that she is using magnetic letters, a white board, a blending board, pieces of connected text, review, and ppt slides (which are interactive) for Nathalie’s level.  She is already seeing growth!

Amber did share that she has had to help Nathalie break some bad habits “learned” for survival (?) in the past at a different school where she got behind.  Examples are:  tendency to guess or “look up” and say she was thinking instead of looking at the words and saying the sounds.

I shared fcrr.org.  We found an activity called, “Digraph Delight,” that she may find useful when they get to that point (as an example).  I was sharing my screen, and she asked to see some of the Fluency activities, as well, for future reference.

We will meet again on 3/26/26 at 4:15 (unless we have to adjust for baseball!) and she will be prepared to discuss current data.
