Notes
Beth Pope and I met for the third time on Thursday, February 12. We are still in the examining influence phase of the Vector model and through our conversation finalized the idea for the goal she Beth will be working on.
Beth has 4 students who are having difficulty with comprehension and Beth attributes that to lack of background knowledge and vocabulary. Beth would like to implement vocabulary strategies that will increase the comprehension of given text. To make the study data relevant, she will develop a Mastery Connect pre-test targeted at students’ ability to comprehend text through use of vocabulary and background knowledge.
We discussed the vocabulary strategies that Beth is already using and that includes KWL charts, Frayer model and online dictionaries. I will assist her in finding evidence-based vocabulary strategies and I encouraged her to determine the strategy she would like to implement for this intervention and to implement it with fidelity.
Beth will administer the pre-test for the intervention the week of February 16 and using the data from the pre-test, Beth will finalize her goal. She will send me her finalized goal statement next week. Parents have been notified of Beth’s desire to work with their students in this small group.
Beth and I also discussed a student that she has that reads fluently and comprehends at grade level or above. But, she can’t spell. Beth asked me to help her find resources that could assist this child and I will be sending her information that I found on the Iowa Reading Research site.
