Coach Log Note 1:

Amanda is the librarian at Fairview.

I shared that we had three purposes today:  to get to know one another, both personally and professionally, to discuss our work together, and to identify some successes and challenges she is seeing in her classroom in literacy instruction.

She shared that she is married to Tayne, who is a SPED teacher at the alternative school in Grandview.  She has a son who is 11, Tiberius, and a daughter who is 4, Georgia.

She has been the librarian at Fairview for five years, but this is her 14th year there.  She began as a para, then taught 1st and 2nd grade, then got her Master’s in Library Media Science and became the librarian.  She describes herself as pretty easy-going and “a bit of a procrastinator.”

When asked why she was getting her Seal of Literacy (not required for librarians), she said it was because there are questions about the future of her school, and thus her job.  She says she doesn’t know reading skills, and she wants to be prepared to return to the classroom, if need be.

She does teach two small groups – a 2nd grade group (at or above grade level) and a K group with three students who are working on recognizing letters and sounds.  We explored the idea of her setting her goal for one of these groups OR choosing something that she can do with her library classes.

When asked about her successes, she talked about her work with the 2nd grade group – reading about Alexander Graham Bell, doing research, and comparing/contrasting.

She says her K group is her challenge.  They are working on 5.6 (breaking apart and putting words back together) and Letter ID.

We will meet again on 2/9/26 at 4:15.
